Pastor Stokes came to serve as our pastor in January of 2009 having previously served in full time ministry since 1980 in Georgia and Kentucky. He was born into a military family. He was saved and baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Anchorage, Alaska and surrendered to the call of ministry at the age of fifteen. He was licensed to the gospel ministry at Trinity Baptist Church in Peru, Indiana. He was ordained in the Gospel ministry in 1979 by Lawrence Drive Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia. He and his wife, Felecia, were married in 1980 and have three children. Pastor Stokes and Felecia both received their Bachelors Degrees from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Pastor Stokes also attended New Orleans Baptist Seminary and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Mark Pennington
Worship and Media Pastor
Pastor Mark joined the Andover pastoral staff in May 2003. Mark is a native Lexingtonian and attended Bryan Station High School where he was involved in many activities. He later attended the University of Kentucky from where he graduated with a business degree. Mark has been singing in church from an early age; his parents once remarked that he was standing in the pew singing the hymns at the top of his lungs at four years of age! Mark has a heart for worship and leading others to worship God in spirit and in truth. He and his wife Michelle have one son, Reed.
Tom Adams
Minister of Outreach
Tom Adams is a native Kentuckian and has lived in Lexington since 1993. He came to Christ in March of 1978, and accepted a call to the gospel ministry a short time later. After receiving his BA in Bible from Bob Jones University in 1983, he continued in graduate school at Bob Jones University as well as Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Over the years, Tom has served in several churches, and currently at the Baptist Church at Andover. He and his wife Robin married in 2006 and facilitate the Divorce Care and Singles Ministry at Andover. They have six children between them, one of which went to be with the Lord in 2006. Tom enjoys hunting and fishing and stays busy as a property inspector, although his real passion is his love for Jesus Christ and the work of the ministry.
Tim Pike
Interim Student Minister
Tim and his wife Kelli joined the Andover family the fall of 2003. They had just recently moved back to KY after Tim completed his graduate work at the University of North Carolina. He worked at the University of KY Sports Medicine Clinic for several years before becoming the head football athletic trainer at Eastern KY University. Not only does he treat the injuries of athletes but views his job as a ministry and has led small group bible studies with both the coaching staff and players. He has always had a heart for God's work and knew that he wanted to be involved in some way at both work and within his church family. As a couple, Tim and Kelli, wanted to find a church that had a need. They visited several churches but truly felt at home when they came to Andover. The amazing thing was that there was a need in the student ministry at Andover. Tim and Kelli have been active with the youth since the first day and Tim has recently joined the BCA staff serving as nterim youth minister. Tim and Kelli have 2 children via adoption, Kaleb and Kamden.
CORE VALUES
Worship: We believe worship is not just on Sunday mornings. True worship entails individual worship time, corporate worship, and family worship.
Fellowship: We believe the atmosphere in a New Testament church is one of loving and caring relationships that inspire accountability, unity, spiritual growth, and exhortation to love and good works.
Discipleship: We believe it is the church’s duty to the believers to train, equip, and teach the Word through Bible studies, Sunday Worship Service, and in service opportunities.
Evangelism: We believe evangelism is commanded by Jesus in Acts 1:8. Therefore, believers are commanded to be evangelists at all times fulfilling the Great Commission at home and abroad.
Ministry: We believe ministry is commanded by Jesus multiple times. Loving our neighbors, utilizing spiritual gifts, and serving others through good works are the fulfillment of this command.
